Job Description

American Boiler & Mechanical is currently hiring for a sheet metal installer in the commercial and industrial Boiler & HVAC field. We are a locally owned family company in business for over 50 years with deep roots in boilers and related mechanical equipment capable of design through start up and ongoing maintenance.

Job Summary

The sheet metal installer prepares, fabricates, and welds various metal constructions, components and structures. Sheet metal technicians work from patterns and blueprints, using a variety of tools and machines to make metal parts or assemble components.

Duties/Responsibilities

  •  Sets up and operates fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, and drill presses. Operates Vulcan 100 plasma table
  •  Orders materials for projects
  •  Utilize and interpret blueprints to determine how and where to fabricate, assemble and install sheet metal products
  •  Measure, mark dimensions and lay out material to be installed using tools such as scribes, rulers, calculators and squares
  •  Fasten joints and seams in sheet metal with solder, welds, caulk, bolts and metal driver clips, ensuring work is done carefully and bonds will last
  •  Install assemblies, including pipes, HVAC ducts, flashings, rain gutters and furnace casings in supportive frameworks
  •  Ensure that efficiency is maximized while fabricating and installing HVAC & boiler systems
  •  Use hand and power tools to trim, buff, smooth, file and grind metal surfaces and joints of parts that have been assembled to ensure safety and a seamless appearance
  •  Select the appropriate type and gauge of sheet metal to be used in projects according to specifications
  •  Ensure safety is a priority on the job during all activities, including using tools and installing and fabricating metal

Required Skills/Abilities

  •  Knowledge of duct assembly and terminology
  •  Mathematical knowledge and skills
  •  Experience with sheet metal layout

Education and Experience

  •  Minimum of 2 years welding/fabrication experience
