Team Meeting

In the current hiring market, qualified technical school graduates have the unique opportunity to be more selective in where they begin their careers. Currently, graduates will find openings at manufacturers, construction companies and facilities that require in-house maintenance personnel.

But none of those mentioned will offer the autonomy and variety of work and environments as equipment service and installation careers. And very few of those will offer the opportunities for advancement and influence as a career with a privately-owned, mid-sized company like American Boiler & Mechanical.

Consider the benefits of a career at AB&M, where the company is family-owned, and the owners are active in the day-to-day operations of the business:

Employees have access to decision makers at AB&M: Vice President Jason Hemphill and brother Josh work out of the St. Louis office, but regularly visit the company’s Kansas City, Wichita, Salina and Joplin operations. And if there’s a pressing issue to be addressed about a customer or work process, for example, it can be addressed quickly and decisively by phone, text or email.

AB&M owners have “skin in the game”: There is no holding company. No subsidiaries. An employee’s success is their success, and vice versa. They want their employees to succeed, and they will give them the resources to do so, including a well-resourced and proven apprenticeship program.

AB&M is a merit shop: Unlike union shops, AB&M rewards hard work and achievement, free of the entanglements of third-party influence in a trade employee’s progress. About 75% of AB&M’s tech force is trade licensed (journeyman or master, depending on discipline).

AB&M is closely held: Unlike larger corporations, including public companies, there is no board of outsiders influencing important decisions. The company’s managers understand the business of boilers and mechanical systems, and the company is run accordingly.

Our current opportunities include entry-level, apprentice positions in plumbing, sheet metal and/or pipefitting. We also have positions available for experienced journeymen/journeywomen.
